What You Should Know Before Visiting TICA Ragdoll Breeders

By Della Monroe

You may have come to a decision on what kind of pet you would like to have and may have decided on a cat. Most likely you would have come across several TICA ragdoll breeders signs or adverts offering to sell top of the line kittens on the market. In any case, you should know a little more about this feline breed before committing so that you can be fully aware of what you are in for.

The ragdoll got its name due to its unique characteristic of becoming limp and relaxed when being picked up, hence the term ragdoll. The cat can become quite large as an adult male can reach up to twenty pounds while the female can reach up to fifteen pounds. These cats have muscular girths and come in a variety of colors such as cream, red, blue, lilac, chocolate and seal. However, they all have the characteristic blue eyes and soft velvety coats.

Making great companions, they are also very vulnerable ones. Being extremely domesticated, they do lack the requisite aggressiveness of the average cat and so should not be let out of the house at all. They are also too trusting of other humans and animals so you must be vigilant all the time of who or what it is attempting to make friends with.

Since they do take to water, it will not be difficult for you to give them a bath once in a while. It will take a bit of your time and dedication however to give them a regular brushing as they are one of the largest long haired breeds. Matting and hairballs might be an occasional problem if you are not vigilant. Expect lots of shedding during the spring season as they shed their winter coats.

It is also important that regular brushing be done, at least twice a week, so as to keep their coats nice and shiny. This is because the brushing action distributes the natural oils of the cat evenly throughout the coat, thus keeping it healthy and shiny. A regular brushing ritual will also ensure a stronger bond between you and your cat in the long run.

Due to its amicable nature, one should be used to having this breed follow him or her around the whole day as the case may be. It will always seek for attention and try to cuddle or snuggle up to you when able. They are also great with kids as they tend to use their paws instead of claws when playing and grasping things.

An additional advantage to having this breed is that they are fairly long lived. Given the right care and loving home, they can live up to fifteen and twenty years on average. As mentioned earlier, they should be kept indoors all the time so as to avoid accidents and infections

As it is a docile and all around lovable creature, the ragdoll is one of the easier breeds to look after. It is also one of the more robust breeds, if proper care and handling are the order of the day.
