A Summary On Hypoallergenic Cat

By Steven Wright

A myth is a theoretical advancement that has not yet been proven. Research may still be underway or it could be something that has baffled scientists and they are yet to understand it. A hypoallergenic cat is a breed of cats believed to have slight or no effects to people, who have allergic reactions to such animals. Reactions include an itching feeling, nasal irritation, sneezing, and becoming asthmatic. Such conditions can be prevented, but before getting to that there is need to understand how the allergic reaction comes about.

One of the biggest breakthroughs came when scientists discovered how the allergies come about. The cat saliva contains a protein called felius domesticus allergen 1, whose function is unknown, but it is affects the human body. To reduce contact with this protein will help to prevent the allergies; however, its effects are only limited to some people.

The difference between the affected and the others may be due to defensive mechanism of the body. It attacks any harmful components that enter the body and it varies within individuals. Thus, a person with a weak system will be vulnerable to the allergens and is highly probable to suffer from allergic reactions. The side effects and the mechanism can be treated with the use of medicine.

The environment also affects a person. If you live in a room that is stuffed and air is dampened, then the risk factor of developing allergies from your cat will be higher. Therefore, it is recommended to do regular cleaning so that you can refresh the air and decrease the pathogens in the air. Moreover, cleaning the cat helps to reduce it.

Moreover, the time of day has been found to influence the reaction. During the day, cats have been found to have a lesser effect than night. Even though not proven how, there is need to reduce contact during such times. This includes keeping the cat out of the bedchamber.

A person, who is more allergic, is advised to have a cat with less fur. It is not possible to prevent the pet from licking itself, since it is a function that enables it to moisten the fur and remove dirt. Since the fur holds the saliva and the protein component, then it will be logical to say that the more the fur, the more saliva contained; hence, more pathogens.

Apart from the above, inherited characteristics of a particular breed should be taken into account. Some cat breeds secrete less allergen that brings about allergies. Choosing such a pet puts you at reduced risk; thus, guarantee of your well-being. To avoid being swindled by traders, do extensive research before purchasing the pet since you will be capable of making an informed decision.

To put all the above in a nutshell, the choice of cat should be through a careful evaluation of the above factors and you are likely to get an animal that fits your preferences.
