Among the various mixes of poodles, goldenpoodle is the youngest of them all. The breed started to be bred in the 1990s by crossbreeding Labrador retrievers and poodles. At that time, the popularity of cockapoos and labradoodles had taken a holding. The breed was developed in order to produce a large form of a poodle that still maintained the same attractive qualities of poodles. Some of the qualities that were needed include intelligence, low-dander traits, and low-shedding coat.

Since the breed is still fairly young, most puppies result from the crossbreeding of Labrador retrievers and poodles. That means that they are first generation offsprings. Groodles are rarely interbred at the moment. The young age of the breed also means that there is no registry or club for it yet. However, many internet communities exist for owners and lovers. The popularity of the breed is rising at a very high rate worldwide today.

How big goldendoodles are is usually very variable. They vary a lot in size because of the lack of breed standards. Without breed standards in existence yet, breeders do not know what the dogs should look like. Everyone breeds according to their own preferences. Standard, miniature, and large are the three size categories of groodles that exist today.

The miniature groodle is usually achieved by crossing toy poodles with golden retrievers. The height of the miniature ranges between 13 to 20 inches at the shoulders. The weight lies within the 15 to 35 pound bracket. Standards goldedoodles rise to a height of 17-20 inches and weight between 40-50 pounds. The large variety weighs 50-90 pounds and has a height of 20-24 inches.

When compared to other poodle mixes, groodles have become popular at a higher rate. This can be attributed to the fact that they have good personality traits. Their nature includes being accepting, intelligent, and friendly. They are a perfect family pet and companion because they are very affectionate. Proper training makes them to enjoy human company a lot. They tend to be playful and mischievous when in good mood.

Socialization, training, and heredity are some of the factors that affect temperament. They should not be left to spend most of their time alone because that may cause them to develop mischief. They do well with other breeds, children and other pets. They thrive in both the city and on farms. The coat is generally low-maintenance and they should be exercised moderately.

Generally, goldendoodles have good health. In comparison to their original parents, they live longer and are affected by less health problems. They are only affected by genetic health problems that also affect both the golden retriever and the poodle. Some of the health concerns to watch out for are HCD, patella and elbow disorder, and PRA.
