Dog Onesies Are Not Only For Making A Fashion Statement

By Carol Edwards

Pet owners are a special breed, and are very well known for spending lots of money to ensure their pets have a wonderful life. Dog onesies could be looked at as an impractical expense considering most have a furry coat, but there are a lot of good reasons that they are very popular! They can certainly make a fashion statement, but they have a practical uses as well, especially in area that are colder in the winter.

This garment is generally a one piece. It can have varying lengths of sleeves on both the front and back legs. Often the legs are open at the feet as this helps the dog to keep their balance and is safer when the road is slippery. Having the paws out also helps to keep the material cleaner and will help reduce wear on the material from long walks on rough surfaces. The garment can be coupled with boots if there is concern about the feet getting too cold.

To help make them more practical, the groin area is often left open. This exception helps to ensure that the outfit stays cleaner and that the animal is able to do it's business without the owner having to remove the garment. The onesie can be a solid, one piece outfit, but is often secured using snaps or even buttons to make it easier to get it on and off.

There is no end to the number of ready made outfits that are available online or at the local pet store. A crafty owner can even find lots of patterns to make one themselves if they are good at sewing, knitting or crocheting. There are many different ways to make one and no end to the materials and colours that they can be fashioned from.

In cool or cold weather, a onesie is certainly an important piece of clothing. For animals without a thick coat, breeds with flat laying fur, or for a dog who requires frequent grooming, this clothing item can provide a great layer of warmth and can make trips outside much more enjoyable for the dog. In cold climates, it is important to keep dogs warm while walking outside.

Some of the available outfits are not meant for warmth, rather, are making a fashion statement. As they can be found in many colors and styles, there is likely one, or several, that will appeal to anyone wishing to dress up their companion. Some are very detailed and elaborate, others are as simple as a t-shirt, but all are very cute and can give your pooch a sense of style, certainly getting them noticed!

Not only for small or short haired breeds, these garments can also be worn by large dogs. They are especially good for breeds that might benefit from an extra layer of warmth like a greyhound. Any dog who is outside when the weather is cold can certainly benefit from wearing one as it can help to provide a layer of insulation and to keep the dog warm if their coat is not thick or warm enough. It is especially good for dogs that have a flat laying coat.

What a great way to spice up a dog's wardrobe and provide the functionality and warmth required in many climates. There is one for every breed and size of dog and it is a wonderful way to show a pet that they are loved. It won't be long before colder weather is upon many places!
