Process Of Training War Dogs

By Stephen Stevens

Dogs in the battlefield have struggled to be appreciated for a long time but that is still to be achieved. As a trainer building trust between you and the dog should be your priority if you want it to follow your instructions. War dogs use non-verbal communication so when training them to think like soldiers concentrate more on the action and not on your words.

It is essential for a trainer to be consistent. Choose a training ground that is fenced and away from distractions. Training is expensive depending on the speciality of the things the dog needs to be taught. For military dogs a lot of time and dedication is needed therefore trainers charge more. In almost all the countries these costs are catered for by the government.

If you want them to be obedient take it to the training ground severally. It helps in familiarizing the place such that when the dog gets to the place it knows it is training time. Make it enjoyable and not like a task they must carry out. Every time you go there they will follow you simple commands like sitting, standing or grabbing a ball.

As a trainer let the dog respect you. Respect is essential between a human being and a dog because that will be the only time it will adhere to your instructions. Taking the dog for a walk and giving it nice treatment will not make the animal respect you. That is love therefore respect is acquired when you show the animal that you are ready to protect it in times of danger.

When training dogs carry yourself as you would during a job interview. Be serious and let your commands be clearly displayed. Dogs love someone powerful and one who can show sense of authority. What you do with your body is what matters the most since they copy the action. Some people presume you have to look huge to show authority but that is not the case.

Like human beings dogs love being appreciated if they do some job well. Treat them with a nice meal if the training was successful that day. Let them feel the appreciation. You should know what makes your dog tick and give them that. These things can be learnt during training whereby you note the activities they enjoy doing the most and note them down.

Punishment should be carried out once in a while in case they misbehave. Most training grounds are against this arguing out that it is breaking animal rights. However little disciplining does not hurt. Do not overreact and beat the dog ruthlessly just make them understand why what they did is wrong. It could be hard without beating but worth trying.

Dogs are the future law enforcers and protects of a country. It means they should be treated well and appreciated often. During the training period teach them how to relate with different environments and different people for them to fit in anywhere. They should also be fed with a good meal and exercise often to help in their mental growth.
