Things To Look For In Professional French Bulldog Breeders

By Amanda Murphy

Adding a new dog to the family is certainly exciting, especially when the choice is an adorable Frenchie. However, they differ from other breeds in that they have special requirements and are often used in breeding scams. This makes it even more important for potential pet parents in Ohio to have a keen understanding of the breed before entering the process, and to use only certified professional French Bulldog breeders to get their puppy.

Anyone who is interested in owning a Frenchie needs to understand that this breed is a full time commitment and no small financial matter. The purchase price for a purebred pup typically runs around two to three thousand dollars, and they have special dietary needs and health concerns that could be a little more than most people are comfortable with. While they are well worth the investment because of their wonderful attributes and show qualities, this is one fact of which a responsible breeder will make sure a potential owner is fully aware.

It is only natural that a person may be tempted to seek out a bargain when looking for puppy, but there is a great risk in purchasing from someone who offers them for less than $1500. The problem is that the pups offered through brokers of this type are usually not of high quality, and most likely imported from overseas. There are not very many of these dogs available as they are quite difficult to breed and often have to be delivered by C-section - situations that are costly to the breeder.

If the seller advertises with phrases like "mini", "exotic", or "rare", a buyer should be wary of a possible scam. The breed has no miniature version and unusually colored coats and eyes are the results of genetic defects. Those dogs will not be accepted in show circles, though they are still interesting and beautiful.

Certain organizations are in place to set and maintain breeding standards. It is best to select a facility from their approved lists. Anyone who meets their approval will have established a reputation for understanding the breed's needs, as well as how to produce litters that come from quality lineage.

Physically visiting the facility to assess it personally, is always recommended whenever possible. In this way, the purchaser has the opportunity to see how clean the animal habitat is, what puppy interaction, and see the condition of the parents - particularly the mother. If this option is not viable, randomly requesting photos showing the target pup, its litter mates, and mom, is advised. No stock images accepted.

Buyers have the right to request certain documents from the facility. This might include the certification qualifying the breeder, and the papers verifying the lineage of the pup being purchased. They should also get its registration with the UK, AKC, or UKC, which shows that it is a purebred. It might even hold dual registrations.

It is impossible for a breeder to completely guarantee any puppy will not experience any health issues in its life, but they can have a vet certify no hereditary conditions exist. A bit of breed and provider research can be very beneficial.
