Most people are excited when they receive a puppy, which is fine, but owning a puppy has responsibilities that come along with it. The first step in owning a young dog it how to train a puppy. Sometimes, when a puppy is improperly trained, the dog ends up in a shelter for adoption.

How to train a puppy correctly takes time and patience, but when they are trained properly, the adjustment period for you will be shorter and not as stressful. So puppy training starts right when you bring your new member of the family home. This way your puppy will hopefully not get into any bad habits right away.

The first step in how to train a puppy is to teach them their daily routines. Some of these routines are showing them where their food and water bowls are, what bed they will be sleeping on, what time they will go to bed and when they will wake up.

Showing your dog where they will potty and also where the toys they van play with are stored are a couple of routines that are important when learning how to train a puppy. Without proper training, your dog will be in command of their behavior.

How to train a puppy also starts with teaching them words like "No" and "Good" when they are a couple of months old. "No" is a very important word that must be used in the same tone of voice for whenever your dog is doing something that you feel is wrong. "Good" is used in a less stern tone of voice and is a verbal reward for something good they have done.

When using the "No" and "Good" words, use body language so they can understand easier what command you are teaching. Your dog must understand "No" and "Good" verbal commands before they will be able to learn any other word training. Do not use dog biscuits as a treat before you use the "No" and "Good" words.

If you try and use dog biscuits, your dog will first decide if they are hungry, and if they aren't. then they will not listen to what you are saying. You can reward your dog with a dog biscuit after they have done what you asked.

Possibly the most important training is that your dog must respect you as the leader in the home. If your dog doesn't respect you as the leader, then your training could be futile.
